[Tutorial] HTML 101

Unknown
When I was starting to learn web markup, HTML5 was still being made, and I had only briefly heard of it, and I mostly dismissed learning the extra things it featured-

Which I now regret.

HTML5 is now pretty much the standard, as far as I'm concerned, so that is what I will try to focus on.

So let's just get into it, shall we...?

Basics & Background

HTML is the language of the internet. Sure, there are others, like ASP.NET, Java*, ColdFusion, and PHP, but HTML(5) is the most prominent. ~90% of the time you will see ".html" in your address bar.

*Why the fuck would you ever want to do this? :jester:

Why?

-It is very easily transferable

-It is very user friendly

-It is fast

-It is understood by all browsers

-It does not require any plugins, framework, etc.

-It is the industry standard (sort of)

-It is easy to develop

What?

Ok, so you are probably either wondering what the hell is markup? or why the hell is this guy saying all this simple boring stuff?

For the first:

Quote:

A (document) markup language is a modern system for annotating a document in a way that is syntactically distinguishable from the text. The idea and terminology evolved from the "marking up" of paper manuscripts, i.e., the revision instructions by editors, traditionally written with a blue pencil on authors' manuscripts.

It's meant to be easier on the eyes then say, an object oriented language like C.

For the second, hold your ass and be patient. :reporter:

When?

HTML was originally released in 1993, with the release of the world wide web, by the W3C and WHATWG.

So what does HTML even stand for?

If you haven't looked it up yet, HTML stands for

-(H)yper-

-(T)ext

-(M)arkup

-(L)anguage

HyperText is:

Quote:

Hypertext is text displayed on a computer display or other electronic devices with references (hyperlinks) to other text which the reader can immediately access, or where text can be revealed progressively at multiple levels of detail (also called StretchText).

So as a review, HTML:

a) is the most prominent language of the internet.

b) was released in '93.

c) represents text displayed on the screen of a computer via annotative-like, syntaxed elements and tags.

I hope you like this, this is supposed to be my section anyways :)
